Pricing & Booking

Tintype Sessions:

Studio Location:

Things to note before booking a session:

- I am currently limiting sessions both in the studio and natural light to one weekend a month (Thursday-Sunday) to make space for my personal art practice. If there is a date/time you would like that is not available in my booking calendar you are welcome to email me to inquire if I would be able to take a session on that date/time. Sessions booked outside of my available dates will see an increase in pricing.

- Sessions include one tintype, but you are always welcome to add more, please select to add an extra tintype at the desired size when you book your appointment. This adds extra time as well to accommodate.

- I include an option to re-shoot a portrait if you are unhappy with it aesthetically at no extra cost, but only at the time of the session. It is a $25 chemical fee if you would like to re-shoot the portrait beyond the initial reshoot. I will always reshoot for my own errors, blinks, or chemical failures/anomalies in the focal point of the image.

-Please consider the pros and cons of a studio light session vs a natural light session when booking. In Studio I use a high-powered strobe for instant exposure, natural light is a long exposure where you must hold still. Both have different looks and qualities, strengths, and weaknesses. I can only do up to 5 people in one tintype in the studio, outdoors I can do as many as desired (though keep in mind details get smaller the more subjects are in it). Also, I offer studio sessions all year round, natural light is heavily dependent on weather and temperature and I can only offer it in Minnesota during the late spring to mid-fall.

- You may have up to two faces per tintype. If you would like to include more than two there is a $10 fee per face/subject. Please note it gets harder to compose and focus an image the more faces are added (especially if they are young, wiggly, or furry), and details become smaller. If you plan on having three or more faces in a tintype please consider the 5”x7” or 8”x10” sizes I offer.

- This is an inherently unpredictable and imperfect process, which is part of what makes it so special. Please be flexible about anomalies, softness, dust or particles on the surface of the tintype, etc.

- This process is not for those who want to appear airbrushed or perfect. It has a way of seeing more than what we can see with our naked eye, which can make some uncomfortable. Despite this, it is still a deeply beautiful and honest way to document yourself or your loved ones, but may not be for everyone.

If you have more questions please refer to my FAQ.

4”x5” Studio Session

-4”x5” in-studio tintype session includes 30 minutes of studio time and one 4”x5” tintype. This is the smallest size I offer, good for single portraits, and can include up to three faces, but details get small.

-For studio sessions I use a very high-powered strobe, so it will essentially freeze any movement that happens in front of the camera. That being said, you need to be in the right place at the right time to be in focus, so I ask sitters to hold relatively still. If you’d like portraits with small humans or animals this is the type of session I would recommend as we have the best chance of getting them in focus with the strobe.

-If you have epilepsy or are sensitive to sudden loud noises/light please take caution when booking this type of appointment.

-If you would like more than one tintype please select the option to add an extra tintype during the booking process. This will add more time to the session.

4”x5” Natural Light Session

Currently booking May-July

-4”x5” on-location natural light session includes 45 minutes of potential shooting time and one tintype.

-This session is completely dependent on weather, so if it is raining or too windy we will need to reschedule. Overcast is okay (and maybe ideal!) Thank you for being flexible

- Working out of the back of my van. Please try to arrange a spot for me to park close by to where we are shooting (whether a driveway or street parking in front). Not sure where you'd like to be photographed? I have a lush yard with lots of trees and foliage if you'd like to be photographed outside of my home. Just let me know!

-Current pricing is for a 20 minute radius of my studio space, if outside of that 20 minute radius I charge a travel fee of $100 per hour of driving (prorated for between 20 minutes to an hour). I’m happy to make a trip to a special place or home outside of that radius but keep in mind that costs increase with distance.

- Using natural light means longer exposure times, which means having to hold still! If you would like to have children or animals in the portrait, expect them to be soft or blurry. This can be helped slightly if they are being held or have a place to rest their heads against. The charm of natural light portraits is their slight softness due to longer exposure times, so know that it is apart of the process and can be really charming even if the subjects' faces aren't super sharp.

- This session only includes one tintype. We will be able to reshoot if something goes wrong chemically, or to get as good a portrait as possible (though within reason! I will re-shoot a portrait for aesthetic reasons only once, after that it is a $25 chemical fee per re-shoot). If you would like more than one tintype from this session can be easily added at the time of the session.

-Session includes one 4”x5” tintype and up to one hour of studio time. You may upgrade the size to a 5”x7”/8”x10”, or add more tintypes at the time of booking or at the session. Also includes up to two reshoots for no extra cost. If we must reshoot for aesthetic reasons past two it is $25 per tintype to cover chemical costs, you only keep the one tintype but may purchase the extras if you’d like.

-Please book this session if you’d like any sort of nudity (for example, a nude maternity shoot), we all have different relationships with our bodies and I find the extra time is integral to getting you a tintype you love, which is not accommodated in a regular session.

-This is open to ALL GENDER EXPRESSIONS! Also to couples, sexy friend groups, or polycules. I’m also kink-friendly, and open to images veering into the erotic, but please communicate with me beforehand if you’d like something out of the “norm” of my typical nude/boudoir work. I will end the session immediately and retain all costs if surprised with something or made to be uncomfortable. If you identify as a cis-man (even within a couple) please be extra sensitive, communicative, and cautious.

-Please have any hair or makeup done before the session, and bring any outfits or props you’d like to use or include in the session.
